Biography
My current duties fall mainly into the following three categories:
Administration
Management of the Departmental Office and central administration staff
Management of the delivery of undergraduate teaching including timetabling of tutorials, laboratory classes and lectures, collation of examination papers and interaction with external examiners, control of room bookings for all Chemistry activities, invigilation arrangements for degree examinations, compilation of undergraduate and postgraduate year handbooks, recording of medical certificates.
Allocation of projects to final year students, calculation of final year classification marks, organisation of arrangements for external examiners' visit for Final Year Examination Board.
- Convenor of Teaching Committee and associated Committees (Student Staff Committe, Laboratory Co-ordinators Committee).
- Director of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering degree course.
- Head of Advisor of Studies and Counselling Scheme, operation of Early Warning System.
- Administration of undergraduate studentships and prizes.
- Responsible for updating of Regulations
- Responsible for preparation of Accreditation documentation
- Responsible for preparation of Programme Specifications and Self Assessment documentation for QAA review

Schools Liason
- Organisation of training days for pupils and teachers as and when requested
- Organisation of the Annual West of Scotland Meeting for Teachers of Chemistry
- Organisation of Chemistry at Work, a Royal Society of Chemistry sponsored event for school pupils
- Involved in Top of the Bench, a Royal Society of Chemistry funded quiz for pupils
- Organisation of Teachers Advisory Panel
- Regular trips to schools to undertake demonstration lectures or laboratory sessions
- Provide assistance with Advanced Higher investigations
- Presentations at annual Open Day/Evenings
- Member of the Admissions Group dealing with prospective students
